The Penderwicks at Point Mouette

When summer comes around, it's off to the beach for Rosalind... and off to Maine with Aunt Claire for the rest of the Penderwick girls, as well as their old friend, Jeffrey.

That leaves Skye as OAP (oldest available Penderwick) - a terrifying notion for all, but for Skye especially. Things look good as they settle into their cozy cottage, with a rocky shore, enthusiastic seagulls, a just-right corner store, and a charming next-door neighbor. But can Skye hold it together long enough to figure out Rosalind's directions about not letting Batty explode? Will Jane's Love Survey come to a tragic conclusion after she meets the alluring Dominic? Is Batty - contrary to all accepted wisdom - the only Penderwick capable of carrying a tune? And will Jeffrey be able to keep peace between the girls . . . these girls who are his second, and most heartfelt, family?

It's a rollicking ride as the Penderwicks continue their unforgettable adventures in a story filled with laughs and joyful tears!

 My Review

The story starts when Skye is being left as the OAP for the longest time the family has ever known. Needless to say, she usually isn't good with children. Rosalind's concern is very apparent. The funny thing is that she researches all of the things that could happen to little Batty in Maine: fall into the Ocean, fall off of a cliff onto the rocks below. Therefore, Skye takes it upon herself to write down everything Rosalind and Daddy say about the caretaking of Batty. But when the list is ruined it Maine, Skye reads the word "Blow up". She frantically spends most of the trip trying to figure out what could make Batty "Blow up." Jane, on the other hand, is exploring "love" for her knew Sabrina Star book. After getting stuck several times, she decides to create a love survey. It is Dominic, a boy who Skye believes is all skateboard and hair, who gives her the inspiration to write it in an unexpected way. Mercedes, Dominic's little sister, is a new unofficial member of the Penderwick gang. She becomes Batty's playmate and friend. Batty has just discovered the joy of music and desperatly want a piano. She is the only Penderwick in the history of Penderwicks, who has been able to carry a tune. Their charming next door neighbor, Alec, who carries a secret he doesn't even know himself. This story carries themes of responsibility and forgiveness and is sure to be a fun read for the whole family.
