The Penderwicks On Gardam Street
THE PENDERWICK SISTERS are home on Gardam Street and ready for an adventure! But the adventure they get isn’t quite what they had in mind. Mr. Penderwick’s sister has decided it’s time for him to start dating—and the girls know that can only mean one thing: disaster. Enter the Save-Daddy Plan—a plot so brilliant, so bold, so funny, that only the Penderwick girls could have come up with it. It’s high jinks, big laughs, and loads of family warmth as the Penderwicks triumphantly return.
My Review
It may be amusing to note that I read this book before I read The Penderwicks. As you may remember, the Penderwick sister's mother died when they were very young. Before she died, she gave Aunt Clare an envelope which encouraged their father to find a second wife. The story begins with a visit from Aunt Clare, who brings some disasterous news with her. The Penderwick sisters hold a MOPS (Meeting of Penderwick Sisters) and formulate the Save- Daddy Plan to keep him from giving them a horrid step- mother. Meanwhile, Sky and Jane have switched homework assignments, which leads to a major disaster. The play that Skye was supposed to write, but which Jane wrote instead is going to be the school play of the year. Unfortunately, Skye as the supposed author is forced to be the star even though her skills in acting are horrible. Rosalind and her neighbor Tommy experience a frustrating romance. Let me for a moment remind my readers that I do not usually approve of seventh grade romance, however I will make an exception for the Penderwicks for it's hilarity. Batty and Hound, who are now secret agents on an undercover backyard mission, must find out who the scary Bug- man is that they keep on seeing. Overall this book is as charming as the first with spots of humor written on every page. It reminds me of the relationship that I have with my own sisters and my own life.
