Small Wisdom From the Bathroom Doors

As I walk through Apex High School each day, I often encounter gestures of either kindness or the signs of a discontented adolescent, who sees fit to tear others down to build themselves up. These emotions are often expressed by writing on the walls. Here is an interesting poem that I found from, of all places, the bathroom stall door.
Writing on the walls
Tearing some down
Building others up

A simple task
A ritual if you will
Of anonymously coming forward

Every secret we hide
Is put on these walls
For all to see

It's so easy
To tell the world
And tell no one

If you want to get to know
The kids within a school
Read the walls

There are secrets told
To everyone
To no one

Writing on the walls
Tearing some down
Building others up
- Anonymous

Whoever the student is who wrote these words nailed the very essence of what writing on the walls is. The feeling, the troubles, the emotions of the children in a school are expressed through the walls. Their experiences that they share with no one, but need to share are written for the world to see.
